Blue Diamond/Cottonwood Valley: Rubber ducky to Late Night parking lot to Viagra

Hey chain breakers -
Why not pick up a new set of kicks (or upgrade to a new set of tubeless tires) from Amazon by clicking the banner above?  You were probably going to buy something anyways, and this way Amazon will send me a little "thanks" in the mail, and I can continue bringing you the good trail reviews you've come to love.

6/29/2011

Summary
This ride starts out with some pretty easy cross country climbing up to the late-night parking lot, and finishes up with an amazing downhill race.
Elevation total: 1232
Distance total: 11.4 miles
Average climb: 3.9%
Steepest climb: 15.0%
Notes:
Slow and easy. This is a good beginner/intermediate ride. Nothing terribly technical except for that last stretch at the end.

The Details
Another fun evening ride with the Meetup group.

I parked at the McGhie's bike shop in Blue Diamond and headed up the pass to Cottonwood Valley.  Once I got over the saddle, stay right and push southwest/uphill to the Late Night parking lot.  You'll weave around the big hills, and cross under the rubber duckies until you get to the parking lot.

From the parking lot there's another short climb then a fun-as-a-barrel-of-monkeys downhill slalom stretch through "Viagra".

Viagra dumps out into a fire road, and you can make your way through to return to Blue Diamond from the West-and-slightly-South side.  This patch of the trail is somewhat technical single-track, with a few narrow rock V's to traverse and a couple of g-outs.

...here's the GPX file for Google Earth.

Great ride, with a fun fast group.  Very little nightlife (furred, not glitter-clad) this evening.

So again, if you liked what you learned and you want to say "thanks", click through the banner below and buy something from Amazon. They sell pretty much everything, I'm certain you'll find something you like.
